We always enjoy beautiful spring weekends in the garden - it`s a perfect time to get plants in containers - or in the ground - It`s a labor of love! 🌼❤️
We’ve returned home with our SunPatiens and are ready to get them planted! -When planting in-ground, space SunPatiens according to the tag instructions or an average of 18” apart (center to center). In baskets or containers, use multiple plants for a fuller look!
-Once planted, You may apply a slow-release fertilizer at ½ the recommended rate by scratching into the top of the soil.
-Always water in your SunPatiens after planting. SunPatiens will require more water while they establish - A light mulching can help retain moisture....
Last week, we prepared our beds - let’s head to the store and pick up some plants! Head to your preferred local garden center and ask for SunPatiens by name. There are a variety of options and sizes available, depending on your project, from landscape beds to small containers and hanging baskets. Spring is here! Planning or already planted, we are going to be serving up some helpful tips and insight to give you the best success with your SunPatiens! Let`s start with prepping your beds or containers! Before you begin, consider the weather. Plant after the last frost of Spring - typically Late April to May, depending on your region. A good rule to follow is the wait until night temps are 55 or above before planting. Location, location, location! Will you be planting in the ground, or in containers? If planting in the ground, prepare your bed(s) by cleaning debris and weeding the area. If you have some snazzy planters, prep them by getting them in place and adding new soil to the top! Consider your soil condition. SunPatiens are thirsty, especially when starting off, so water retention is important to help establish strong roots. If your soil is sandy or overworked, we recommend cultivating to a depth of 12” and amending with organic matter(peat, compost, etc.). Determine how many plants you’ll need. For mass plantings in landscapes, SunPatiens should be planted at an average of 14” apart center to center. Be sure to check the plant tag for spacing recommendation, as some varieties require more or less spacing. For large planters, use 3 – 5 plants per pot for a full look.
Your bed is ready to plant, you have a plan! Tune in next week for selection and planting tips.
